Lindab now also uses XCarb® steel for ventilation ducts

15 December 2023

As of 2023, Lindab offer products in Recycled steel 75 as part of their standard range for the Swedish market. This low-carbon emissions steel consists of at least 75 percent recycled steel and is produced in electric arc furnaces powered by renewable electricity. Put together, this means it has up to 70 percent lower climate impact than traditionally produced steel made from Basic Oxygen Steelmaking which includes using a blast furnace.

XCarb® recycled and renewably produced steel from ArcelorMittal Europe – Flat Products complies with this target and is verified by an EPD (Environmental product declaration). Lindab has since offered the Swedish market roof and facade products, produced from XCarb® steel and lately extended the offer to also include ventilation ducts.

A good example of successful implementation is the renovation of Jakobsbergsgatan 24, a 100+ year old building in the Mood quarter in Stockholm. The owner – AMF Fastigheter – is rebuilding and updating the facilities into a modern, sustainable and flexible office property. Lindab is delivering the first ventilation duct system made of recycled steel to the project. The total reduction of CO₂e-emissions for the ventilation ducts from Lindab in the Jakobsbergsgatan 24 property amounts to 30 036 kg CO₂e (A1-A3 GWP fossil), which marks a significant step towards creating more sustainable building.

“We are very happy with this co-operation with ArcelorMittal, as it supports our effort to offer the market products for a sustainable future” says Matilda Isaksson, Group Sustainability Manager at Lindab.
