In 2004, ahead of the timetable required by the ELV regulation, ArcelorMittal stopped the use of hexavalent chromium-based passivation in all our automotive processes.
In 2012, ArcelorMittal launched a new organic coated steel collection, with coatings and surface treatments that are free of hexavalent chromium and heavy metals (lead or hexavalent chromium complex).
In 2015, ArcelorMittal stopped the use of lead in all our flat product galvanisation lines. This was done in anticipation of harsher restrictions under the European RoHS regulation.
We continue to invest in R&D programmes with our suppliers to ensure the surface treatments and painting systems we use are constantly ahead of new and emerging regulations.
Additional information, such as the updated REACH candidate list and other declarations regarding the contents and safe use of our products, are available on request. You can also find them online at industry.arcelormittal.com/getintouch
