In September 2024 LANZ formally launched its new EcoShield® product portfolio based entirely on ArcelorMittal Europe – Flat Products’ Magnelis® steel offering. Magnelis® is a metallic coating with a unique zinc-aluminium-magnesium composition. It offers excellent corrosion resistance, at least three times better than post-galvanised steel in outdoor applications. This enables outstanding resistance in harsh and extreme environments with high moisture, chloride or ammonia conditions.

Philippe Baur explains: “Magnelis® also has a unique self-healing property that repairs cut edges through the migration of corrosion products formed from the Zn-Al-Mg coating. This brings longer life and robustness to LANZ’s cable trays, and means that its products can be cut and assembled on site by contractors without the need for zinc reapplication by dipping or spraying. Through its production process Magnelis® is inherently lighter and thinner, typically weighing 310-430 g/m2 compared to 800-1,000 g/m2 for conventional post-galvanised steel cable trays. This reduces the amount of zinc used as well as intermediate transport, thereby significantly reducing time, costs and carbon emissions. Moreover, we are very happy with the product’s behaviour during processing. Punching, bending, cutting - everything runs smoothly.”

For the 46,000 m2 Metro-Campus in Zurich, Switzerland, constructed by Green.ch AG, LANZ has supplied the cable routing solutions for the high-performance Data Centre M, which is providing the data handling capacity for cloud providers, companies and system integrators based at the state-of-the-art campus. LANZ was originally introduced to ArcelorMittal's products through mutual partner SSC Debrunner Metallservice AG, who has played an important part in LANZ transitioning to Magnelis® steel applications since 2019.
