The reliability and superior quality of our quarto plates offer improved strength, workability, and weldability. They are certified by all major certification bodies and can withstand even low temperatures which makes them suitable for many arctic and deep-sea vessels.
Our steel plates can be supplied as-rolled, thermomechanically rolled or normalised, shot-blasted/painted and/or cut and bevelled on demand. They are now also available in a wider dimensional range and at weights up to 18-19T*.
Heavy plate can be delivered as rolled (AR), normalised (N), normalised rolled (NR) and thermomechanically rolled (TMCP). They can be shot blasted, or shot blasted and prepainted.

ArcelorMittal is involved in multiple research programs to improve the steel used in shipbuilding, and to create new solutions. Through co-engineering projects, we collaborate with the main actors in the shipbuilding industry to identify solutions which offer better performance and significant savings.
Our heavy plate can also be supplied via our XCarb® recycled and renewably produced route. The steel is made from slabs produced in an electric arc furnace (EAF) using almost 100% scrap and renewable electricity, resulting in a 65% lower carbon footprint compared to the conventional steelmaking route.
Alternatively, our heavy plate can be supplied with XCarb® steel certificates, enabling customers to reduce their Scope 3 (supply chain) emissions. The CO2 savings, and corresponding volume of XCarb® steel certificates, are assured by DNV, an independent expert in verification and assurance. The certificates comply with the Greenhouse Gas Reporting protocol and can be redeemed by ArcelorMittal’s direct customer, or the end customer for the product.
