The European Road Federation (ERF), in cooperation with the Hellenic Institute of Transportation Engineers (HITE) and the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), organized a technical conference on "current advances in road infrastructure safety equipment" on 12-13 February in Athens. ArcelorMittal was one of the sponsors and presented its latest innovations in road restraint systems.
The event, attended by 200 professionals, was dedicated to authorities, operators, transportation planners, engineers and road safety experts. It provided an overview of European policies, legislation, technical norms and good practices in the field of road infrastructure safety equipment.
On the first day of the conference, Patrick Le Pense, Manager of the Infrastructure segment at ArcelorMittal Europe – Flat Products, spoke on Innovation in Steel Barriers.
Mr Pense explained how the combination of new steel grades and new coatings like Magnelis® addresses the requirements of EN 1317 standards, which are based on performances. Together with durability & sustainability approaches, this new steel combination is giving rise to a real revival in road infrastructure engineering and will enable new innovations in the coming years.
