ArcelorMittal at CWIEME 2019

21-23 May 2019, Berlin (Germany)

ArcelorMittal was at CWIEME Berlin 2019 to present its broad range of electrical steels and its engineering services to develop with its customers the electrical steel applications of the future.

ArcelorMittal’s range includes:

  • iCARe® for the automotive market
  • Fully processed and semi-processed non-oriented electrical steels
  • Pole and rim sheets for hydro generator rotors
  • Wound cores for transformer and inductor applications

New iCARe® 420 Save grades boost the power density of efficient traction motors

Within iCARe®, the ”Save” grades have the lowest magnetic power losses at frequencies around 400 Hz. That improves the efficiency of the electric motor which in turn reduces battery energy usage. It also limits heat dissipation in the magnetic cores of electric motors which allows cooling systems to be downsized.

The new member of the iCARe® family, iCARe® 420 Save, exhibits the ideal combination of low losses with high yield strength, resulting in an increase of the power density and energy efficiency of electric traction motors. Indeed, the improved and guaranteed yield strength (420 MPa) of the iCARe® 420 Save products leads to optimised mechanical rotor designs and/or the increase of the electrical machine’s rotating speed, thus enhancing the power density.

Hence iCARe® 420 Save is the best choice for enhanced magnetic properties as needed for stators, combined with enhanced mechanical properties as requested for rotors. Moreover, both stators and rotors can be punched out of the same iCARe® 420 Save grade, which reduces cost.

ArcelorMittal is already producing iCARe® 420 Save grades at our mill in St-Chély d’Apcher (France). Common examples of 420 Save grades are the 420 Save 27-15 and the 420 Save 30-16 grades, having a guaranteed loss level of less than 15 and 16 W/kg at 400Hz and 1T, respectively (and achieving these losses in thicknesses of 0.27mm and 0.30mm, respectively).

See you next year in Berlin, from 26 to 28 May 2020 on stand A11, Hall 2.2!
