A new and complete brochure on our steels for safety barriers is available. Our presence at the Intertraffic fair in Amsterdam was the perfect opportunity to launch this new brochure, showing our customers that we are a leading provider of steels for road infrastructure safety solutions such as safety barriers, poles and sound fences.

Moreover, ArcelorMittal case studies show potential of savings of up to 30% in weight and around 20% in costs.

The brochure describes the new landscape of European standards introduced in July 2013, which allow barrier manufacturers to choose new and innovative steels for their barriers.

This is the case of High Strength Low Alloy steels which are:

• lighter per metre,
• better able to absorb energy in the event of a crash,
• more cost-competitive,
• Environmentally friendly

When combined with new coatings such as Magnelis^®, ArcelorMittal's HSLA steels offer long-term, cost-effective solutions. Magnelis^®, a steel metallic coating made with zinc, 3.5% aluminium and 3% magnesium, protects road infrastructures made of steel against corrosion, while maintaining high mechanical properties.

Magnelis^®, which uses less zinc than pure zinc coatings thereby considerably reducing zinc runoff in the soil, comes with a 20-year guarantee for safety barriers, and up to 25 years for poles.

On top of these innovative steel solutions, the brochure describes the range of engineering services that ArcelorMittal offers to its customers to win in the market including an approach to barrier testing, numerical and experimental tests (steel characterisation, investigation of beams and beam connections, soil characterisation, etc).
