Aluzinc® Florelis is leading Rzeszów-Jasionka Airport into the future

Due to increased air traffic between the south-east of Poland and Western Europe, Rzeszów-Jasionka Airport decided to redevelop its facilities in 2013. The infrastructure improvements included two new hangars, a larger aircraft parking area, and 1,800-metre taxiway.

ArcelorMittal’s Aluzinc® Florelis was chosen as the cladding material for the larger of the two hangars. Measuring 80 x 84 m, the hangar will provide over 6,700 square metres of floor area which will be used for the maintenance of large aircrafts.

A unique steel for a remarkable facade

Aluzinc® Florelis forms the outer shell of the panels used on the hangar’s facades. A flat carbon steel with a unique alloy coating of 55% aluminium, 43.4% zinc and 1.6% silicon, Aluzinc® Florelis has excellent resistance to corrosion – a major reason it was the product of choice for this prestigious project.

Another reason for the selection of Aluzinc® Florelis was its special appearance. Offered with a guaranteed uniform spangle density of between 1,000 and 1,800 spangles per dm2, Aluzinc® Florelis ensures the new hangar is an attractive and highly visible addition to the airfield.

Delivering a quality result, on time

Timing of deliveries was also critical as the airport wanted to complete the works before winter set in. ArcelorMittal Dudelange was able to meet the airport’s timeframe and the panels were produced as soon as the coils arrived from the mill.

ArcelorMittal Construction Poland delivered 11,000 m2 of HACIERCO 135/315 trapezoidal roofing sheets and 11,000 m2 of FLOLINE 40/0,75 arched sheets with an Aluzinc® coating.

Thanks to ArcelorMittal and Aluzinc® Florelis, the airport’s expansion plans were realised on time. The result is a stunning new facility that will meet the aviation needs of southern Poland for many decades to come.
