Line pipes

Good steel starts with good slabs. In sour environments, hydrogen induced cracking (HIC) occurs at the location of inclusions. Reducing the impurities in the steel is essential to avoid this. To achieve the level of purity required, the amount of sulphur in the steel is kept below 20 ppm.

We are further increasing our range of Hydrogen Induced Cracking (HIC) resistant steels and are gaining market share in CO2 transportation projects. ArcelorMittal’s new range of Oil Country Tubular Goods (OCTG) grades has been developed to meet increasing demand for welded pipes in casing, tubing and drilling operations.

Currently we are developing a new heavy gauge steel for spiral-welded energy pipes which is more than 20 mm thick. The new steel is designed for use in intercontinental pipelines and should be available by early 2013.

ArcelorMittal also understands that on-time delivery is critical for our customers. With their combined production capacity and direct access to seaports, ArcelorMittal’s plants at Bremen (Germany) and Fos-sur-Mer (France) are well-equipped to meet this challenge. ArcelorMittal’s Krakow mill (Poland) also produces linepipe steel grades, enabling us to meet high-volume orders and the needs of customers in the rapidly growing Eastern Europe market.
