Arceo, ArcelorMittal Flat Carbon Europe (FCE) and PROFIL DU FUTUR jointly promoted their innovative steel solutions for the solar industry at Intersolar Europe 2013. Held in Munich, Germany from 19 to 21 June 2013, the Intersolar fair welcomed almost 2,000 international exhibitors and over 66,000 trade visitors.
Arceo demonstrated Solarceo®, a selective coating for solar absorbers, and their steel absorber for solar collectors. The good formability of steel allows Arceo to design absorbers which have a high contact surface between the fluid and the absorber sheet which compensates for steel’s lower conductivity compared to other materials.
Solarceo® uses Physical Vapour Deposition (PVD) technology to apply a selective coating to solar absorbers. The coating maximises the amount of energy absorbed from the sun’s rays while minimising thermal radiation.
ArcelorMittal Flat Carbon Europe and PROFIL DU FUTUR, an ArcelorMittal subsidiary which designs and manufactures structures for ground-mounted photovoltaic solar power plants, showcased ArcelorMittal’s revolutionary new Magnelis® steel coating. PROFIL DU FUTUR uses steels coated with Magnelis® to create long-lasting foundations and upper structures for solar installations.
Magnelis® offers outstanding corrosion resistance – even in soil and harsh environments. Unlike other coatings Magnelis® self-heals, ensuring continued protection for cut edges. Magnelis® is the most cost-effective alternative to aluminium, stainless steel and batch galvanised steel.
A metallic zinc coating, Magnelis® includes 3.5% aluminium and 3% magnesium and comes with a 25-year guarantee in solar installations. It is available in thicknesses ranging from 0.45 to 6.0 mm.
