Denis Parein, Segment Manager - Oil and Gas, ArcelorMittal Europe – Flat products, spoke at the 17th edition of the CIS & Turkey Oil and Gas Transportation Congress which took place on 11 and 12 November 2015 in Istanbul.
During his speech, Mr Parein outlined the challenges of the steel market for pipes and tubes in the present context of the whole industry: the solid performance from USA and European economies and improved competitiveness despite over-capacity and surging imports, China moving to a slower yet safer and more sustainable growth.
In this context, the expectation of ArcelorMittal’s customers is to gain competitive advantage through new product development, co-engineering and optimised supply chain and supply security through multi mill principle.
In the area of new product development, Mr Parein introduced a new range of high strength steels & boron grades for tube applications.
As for the services, Mr Parein took the example of Tanap project, for which ArcelorMittal supplied steel to Toscelik. The requisites of the project in terms of thickness, grade, BDWTT and SMYS were extremely challenging and which only a few steel suppliers could fullfill. Success came through a close partnership with Toscelik in terms of product adaptation to the needs, support in optimizing productivity and efficiency, and an extensive supply chain and technical support.
