ArcelorMittal at CWIEME in Berlin

ArcelorMittal was one of the major exhibitors at the Coil Winding Expo (CWIEME) held in Berlin (Germany) from 10 to 12 May 2022. CWIEME fair in Berlin is where the finest experts in coil winding, insulation and materials for stator and rotor laminations for electrical motors and generators come together. It’s the world's largest event dedicated to the supply chain of coils, transformers, electric motors and generators. ArcelorMittal has been present at this trade fair for more than 20 years so were delighted we could finally again spark new conversations about the components, steel grades, and most efficient solutions to produce the next generation of electric motors, windmills or hydropower stations to name just a few.

ArcelorMittal investment as talk of the town

Some of those conversations were certainly dealing with ArcelorMittal’s recently announced investment in a new electrical steel production facility at Mardyck in northern France. This exciting €300 million investment will enable us to triple our current output of electrical steels in Europe by 2025. The investment demonstrates ArcelorMittal’s commitment to support the development of sustainable mobility solutions. It will also build on ArcelorMittal’s existing reputation as an established supplier of high-quality electrical steels and further help Europe’s efforts to secure its technological advantage and energy security.

Deep diving at the CWIEME conference

CWIEME also took a deep dive on two conference stages, with one stage dedicated to market overview and industry trends and another on e-mobility.

As one of the leading players, ArcelorMittal presented some of its electrical steels research results at CWIEME’s e-mobility stage

ArcelorMittal’s Lode Vandenbossche and Ahmed Abdallh presented the study about the Highly Efficient, Power Dense and Sustainable Traction Motor Designs: iCARe® 420 Save Higher-Strength Low-Loss Electrical Steels

  • ArcelorMittal’s iCARe® 420 Save electrical steel grades offer high yield strength levels - guaranteed above 420 MPa - without affecting its magnetic properties for traction motor applications
  • ArcelorMittal’s iCARe® 420 Save grade is the ideal choice to simultaneously provide a higher yield strength and a higher fatigue limit necessary for optimum rotor designs, as well as low magnetic losses in a wide frequency range for both stator and rotor core components.
  • These properties enable optimal motor designs, resulting in higher energy savings, increased motor compactness, and/or more sustainable designs – with a reduced usage of copper and rare-earth permanent magnets.
  • Case studies to illustrate the added value of iCARe® 420 Save grades along different axes of sustainable traction motor design for e-mobility applications

Presented by ArcelorMittal’s Lode Vandenbossche and Ahmed Abdallh on 10 May from 13h30 to 14h
