Innovation in steel for construction

This fall, ArcelorMittal Europe – Flat Products joined steel promotion events to present its innovative steels for roofing and cladding applications, offering aesthetics, sustainability and performance.

In 2015 a number of new steel products have been launched by ArcelorMittal, such as Granite® Quartz, an organic coated steel with outstanding scratch resistance for roofs and facades, offering a full spectrum of beautiful crystalline colours, Solano® Nature, with its thick coated steel (200 microns) now free of phthalates, chromates and heavy metals and Granite® Silky Shine, a prepainted steel for facade systems with a high-gloss luxurious skin.

It has also been a year of official recognition of our quality standards, with our painting lines in France, Germany, Belgium, Poland and Italy granted with the ECCA Premium® label.

These innovations were presented at steel promotion events throughout Europe to a wide panel of construction actors: architects, engineers, investors, contractors or fabricators, and also local authorities, universities and research institutions.

At the Nationale Staalbouwdag 2015, on 1st of October at Amsterdam's Kromhouthal, 1500 participants attended a full-day plenary conference and practical seminars. Coen Van Gorp held a conference about innovation, sustainability and durability of organic coated steels in construction.  “Steel Envelope” was presented there. Consisting of a landmark book and a dedicated website, Steel envelope gives architects, designers and engineers a chance to touch and feel ArcelorMittal Europe – Flat Products' construction products.

At the “Steel in 2015” event of Construir’Acier, at the Showcase venue in Paris on 7th October, a number of awards were granted in the areas of design and building with steel. ArcelorMittal, partner of the event, showcased “Steel Envelope”.

During the Infosteel Construction Day on 10th November at the Chambre des Métiers of Luxembourg-Kirchberg, Jérôme Guth explained how steel concretely contributes to the sustainable building construction.

On 11th November, in At the Technorama in Winterthur near Zurich, Stahlbau Zentrum Schweiz association organized its steel academy under the theme of “Halls and envelopes”.  Jérôme Guth spoke on product innovation in steel for façades.
